Lisa L. Gilliam (affectionately known as 1SingingLady) received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech and Drama with a minor in Vocal Music Performance from Virginia Union University (VUU) in 1995. She went on to receive a Master of Arts degree in Education and Human Development with a concentration in Community Counseling from the George Washington University (GWU) in 1999. Lisa has been employed as a counselor, consultant, and educator at a college as well as in DC Metropolitan areas school systems and non-profit agencies. Artistically, she has worked as a vocalist, pubic speaker, writer, poet, radio co-host, booking agent, and event production coordinator.
In 2001 Lisa founded Gilliam VOCALS, Inc. VOCALS is an acronym for Vocalist, Orator, Consultant, Actress, Lyricist, and Saved, all describing characteristics of Lisa. The mission of the corporation is to use the performance, literary, and communication arts to uplift, encourage, and enhance the lives of people who have been emotionally or physically hurt.
